Founder President KN Nanjappa'ji

Kulachanda Nanjappa is originally from Karnataka India and graduated from University of Iowa in 1961 with a Masters degree in Civil Structural Engineering and started working in Cedar Rapids in  Brown, Healey, and Bock  Architecture company. To the best of our knowledge he is the first person of Asian Indian origin who lived in Cedar Rapids. He went back to India in 1965, got married and came back to Cedar Rapids with his wife Prem in 1968. Mr Nanjappa and his wife with their son and daughter have seen the Indian community growing to 300+ families in the last 50 years in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Nanjappa's notable contributions include the designing the first skywalk in the city, Cedar Rapids Water Treatment Plant and the new airport terminal expansion work in 1975. He retired from Howard Green Company as Vice President after 27 years of service in that company. He was the founder president of the Cedar Rapids Hindu Temple, Friends of India association of Cedar Rapids. He was involved in the Professional Engineering Society and was elected as President of the Cedar Rapids Chapter of Iowa Engineering Society. He also served as the President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (Iowa Section) and of the Cedar Rapids Noon Lions Club.
